Article 1 — Event overview
La Wysam — The Nord-Vaudois Challenge is a cycling event organised by the Vélo-Club Orbe (VCO), a non-profit sports association. The routes follow public roads open to normal traffic in the canton of Vaud and surrounding regions.
The event takes place in a spirit of conviviality, personal challenge, and respect for the areas traversed. It is not a race sanctioned by a cycling federation; all organisational responsibility rests with the VCO.
La Route 66 and La Wysam 111 each offer two formats:
- Timed format: restricted to human-powered bicycles, with an official ranking, no prizes or podium.
- Rando format: untimed, open to e-bikes (pedelecs), no ranking.
Le Défi 3333 is offered in timed format only.
Article 2 — Registration
Registration is handled exclusively through the Softtiming.ch platform, until the closing date set by the organiser.
Eligibility:
- Participants must be at least 18 years old on the day of the event.
- No cycling licence or medical certificate is required. By registering, participants declare on their honour that they are in good physical condition to complete the chosen event.
Bib transfer: A bib may be transferred to another participant until 9 August 2026 at midnight, by written request sent by email to the organiser. No transfers will be accepted after this deadline.
Refunds: Registration fees are non-refundable under any circumstances.
By registering, participants confirm that they have read and accepted these regulations without reservation.
Article 3 — Bib collection
Bibs and any mandatory equipment provided by the organiser may be collected at the following times:
Friday 21 August 2026, from 14:30 to 18:30 Cycles Wanner, Rue des Remparts 32, 1350 Orbe, Vaud, Switzerland
Saturday 22 August 2026, from 06:30 until 15 minutes before the start of each event Grande Salle, Rue de la Gare 8, 1321 Arnex-sur-Orbe, Vaud, Switzerland
A valid form of photo ID (identity card or passport) is required for collection.
Bibs will not be sent by post.
Article 4 — Permitted bicycles
Timed format (La Route 66, La Wysam 111, Le Défi 3333)
Only traditional, human-powered bicycles are permitted, compliant with the Swiss Road Traffic Act (SVG/LCR) and roadworthy for use on public roads.
E-bikes (pedelecs) are strictly prohibited in timed formats. Any participant found riding an e-bike will be immediately disqualified and, where applicable, moved to the Rando category, or excluded from the event.
Rando format (La Route 66 Rando, La Wysam 111 Rando)
E-bikes (pedelecs) are permitted, provided they comply with the Swiss Road Traffic Act (SVG/LCR) and are roadworthy. Electric assistance must remain within the legal limits (25 km/h, 250 W).
Article 5 — Mandatory equipment
The following equipment is mandatory for the start and throughout the event.
| Equipment | Details |
|---|---|
| Helmet | Must be worn at all times during the event |
| Numbered bib | Clearly visible on the bicycle, in good condition throughout |
Strongly recommended equipment
Although not mandatory, the following items are strongly advised for participants’ safety and autonomy:
- Front and rear lights: essential in the event of poor weather conditions or an unexpected delay.
- GPS or navigation app: participants are responsible for their own navigation; an official GPX file will be published on the VCO website, complementing on-course signage.
- Repair kit: inner tube, patch kit, pump, tyre levers, and any tools deemed necessary. The organiser cannot provide mechanical assistance during the event; each participant is responsible for repairing their own bicycle in the event of a mechanical problem.
Article 6 — Route and navigation
The courses are marked with directional arrows throughout. In addition, the official GPX file for each event is available for download on the VCO website ahead of the event.
Obligation to follow the route
Participants must follow the official route. Minor deviations are tolerated provided they confer no advantage in terms of distance or time (e.g. avoiding a temporary obstacle), and provided the participant returns to the official route as quickly as possible.
Any deliberate shortcut or significant deviation from the route will result in immediate disqualification.
Article 7 — Feed zones and assistance
Feed zones are provided by the organiser on each course:
| Event | Feed zones | Locations |
|---|---|---|
| La Route 66 | 1 | Vaulion (en Nidau) |
| La Wysam 111 | 2 | Vaulion (en Nidau) · Berolle |
| Le Défi 3333 | 3 | Vaulion (en Nidau) · La Givrine · Berolle |
Organised personal assistance (support vehicle, roadside handover of food or equipment by a third party outside designated zones) is prohibited in timed formats. It does not result in disqualification in the Rando format, but may be taken into account in category management.
Article 8 — Traffic law and safety
Participants are subject to the Swiss Road Traffic Act (SVG/LCR) at all times. Events take place on roads open to normal traffic; participation confers no exemption from traffic rules.
The following rules apply at all times:
- Helmets must be worn throughout the event.
- Front and rear lights must be switched on in reduced visibility (fog, bad weather).
- Each participant is solely responsible for their own riding and safety on the road.
- Participants must obey traffic signals, right-of-way rules, and the instructions of law enforcement.
In the event of a road accident, the participant must:
- For minor incidents, notify the organiser to call on the mobile first-aid team.
- For more serious injuries, call emergency services on 144 and notify the organiser if circumstances allow.
- For accidents involving other vehicles, call the police on 117 and photograph the scene as far as possible.
- Not alter the scene before the police arrive, unless required to protect the injured or ensure traffic safety.
The organiser accepts no liability for accidents or incidents occurring on the road.
Article 9 — Rankings and finishers
Official rankings
Rankings are established on elapsed time (time since the start) for each event:
- Men’s scratch ranking
- Women’s scratch ranking
The ranking is determined by the finish time recorded at the official finish line.
The Rando format does not produce a ranking.
Cut-off times
Feed zones close at the times listed below. Any participant who arrives at a feed zone after its closing time will be considered outside the time limit and asked not to continue:
| Point | Closing time |
|---|---|
| Vaulion (en Nidau) | 12:00 |
| La Givrine | 12:00 |
| Berolle | 15:30 |
| Finish (Grande Salle, Arnex-sur-Orbe) | 17:00 |
Any participant who has not crossed the finish line by 17:00 will be recorded as DNF and will not appear in the official rankings.
Finishers
A participant is recognised as a finisher if they have completed the full official course and crossed the finish line within the time limit. The complete finisher list will be published on the VCO website after the event.
There is no prize-giving ceremony and no prize money.
Article 10 — Rewards
- Every participant at the start receives a commemorative gift handed out at bib collection.
- A pasta party is organised at the finish for all participants arriving before the time limit.
Article 11 — Conduct and environmental responsibility
Participants commit to behaving respectfully towards:
- Other road users
- Residents of the villages and regions along the route
- Volunteers and the organising team
- The natural environment
Dropping litter anywhere other than designated bins or waste points is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate disqualification. Participants are expected to carry their waste until the next feed zone or available bin.
Any disrespectful, aggressive, or dangerous behaviour towards another person (participants, volunteers, residents, law enforcement) will also result in immediate disqualification.
Article 12 — Penalties
| Offence | Penalty |
|---|---|
| First minor offence | Formal warning from race direction |
| Second offence or serious offence | Immediate disqualification |
Offences subject to immediate disqualification (non-exhaustive list):
- Use of an e-bike in a timed format
- Deliberate shortcut or bypassing of a control point
- Littering
- Dangerous or disrespectful behaviour
- Failure to comply with instructions from race direction
Decisions made by race direction are final and cannot be appealed during the event.
Article 13 — Withdrawal
Any participant wishing to withdraw must notify the organiser as soon as possible, using the contact details provided on the bib.
The organiser does not arrange or cover the return journey for participants who withdraw. Each participant is responsible for making their own way back.
Article 14 — Liability and insurance
The VCO holds public liability insurance covering its role as organiser.
By participating in La Wysam, participants acknowledge and accept the inherent risks of cycling on public roads open to traffic (fatigue, weather conditions, traffic, terrain).
The VCO accepts no liability for accidents, injuries, illness, loss, or material damage occurring before, during, or after the event, except in the case of gross negligence on its part.
Each participant must hold third-party liability insurance valid for the duration of the event, and is responsible for taking out any additional personal insurance deemed necessary (accident, assistance, repatriation).
In the event of a mechanical problem, each participant is solely responsible for repairing their own bicycle. The organiser cannot provide mechanical assistance during the event.
By registering, participants confirm they are in good physical condition to undertake the effort required by their chosen event.
Article 15 — Image rights
By registering for La Wysam, participants authorise the VCO to use their name, image, and any recordings featuring them (photos and videos taken during the event) for the purposes of non-commercial communication and promotion of the event and VCO activities (website, social media, press, informational materials).
Any commercial use of such images by the VCO requires the participant’s separate written consent.
Article 16 — Personal data
Personal data collected during registration is used exclusively for the purposes of managing the event. It is processed in accordance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP / nFADP) in force in Switzerland.
Any participant may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their personal data by contacting the VCO by email.
Article 17 — Force majeure and amendments
The VCO reserves the right to modify the date, route, or format of the event for reasons of safety, exceptional weather conditions, or force majeure. Participants will be notified as soon as possible.
The VCO cannot be held liable for costs incurred by participants in the event of cancellation or modification due to force majeure.
The VCO also reserves the right to amend these regulations. The version published on the VCO’s official website shall prevail at all times.
Article 18 — Acceptance of regulations
Registration for La Wysam constitutes full and unconditional acceptance of these regulations and of all decisions made by race direction in the context of the event.
